The regional police of York has filed charges against three people in connection with a protest Thursday outside a Greater Toronto synagogue.

The three arrests are unrelated and all took place during a demonstration that lasted many hours. The police department did not want to confirm whether those arrested were part of the group of demonstrators or counter-protesters.

The demonstrators were protesting the holding of an information session for the sale of real estate in Israel mentioning land in the occupied West Bank which took place at the Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto synagogue in Thornhill, a northern suburb of Toronto.

The first accused, Kevin Haas, a 40-year-old man from Markham, was seen by officers in the crowd with a knife. The police accuse him of carrying a weapon for dangerous purposes.

The second, Meir Gerichter, a 32-year-old Vaughan man, is charged with allegedly assaulting a woman.

The third accused, Ina Sandler, is a 48-year-old woman from Vaughan, who allegedly threatened a man with coyote repellent, similar to pepper spray, during an altercation. She faces one charge of carrying a weapon with a dangerous purpose and one charge of assault with a weapon.
