Galaxy S24 vs iPhone 15: should you buy Samsung this year ?

© Lemon squeezer

After the duel between the most high-end models (read our Galaxy S24 Ultra vs S23 Ultra comparison), it's the turn to discuss the smallest S24 model , and how it compares to the entry-level iPhone 15. We are here on two quite different proposals, in the end, because of their operating system – Android 14 on one side and iOS 17 on the other.

With a few small differences, such as the brightness and refresh rate of the screen (120 Hz and up to 2600 nits at Samsung versus 60 Hz and up to 2000 nits at Apple) , we are ultimately seeing very similar performances in both cases. But there are nevertheless reasons to choose, in our opinion, Samsung instead this year. We'll explain why.

The first big difference is to be found on the photo side. On the iPhone 15 side we have a 48 Mp dual sensor associated with a 12 Mp wide angle. While on the side of Samsung, also known for the excellence of this part in its smartphones, we have a triple sensor that is much more versatile, since it is a question of a main objective of 50 Mp, a 12 Mp wide angle, and above all a 10 Mp telephoto lens which guarantees that your zoomed photos will be more beautiful.

Beyond that, Samsung's smartphone is making progress in video with 8K video recording at 24 or 30 frames per second (admittedly, a bit of a gadget). Option in addition to 4K recording at 30 or 60 frames per second and 1080p recording at 30, 60 or even 240 FPS. But this is not the end of the story.

Indeed, thanks to the AI functionalities to which we will return later, the photos are entitled to automated retouching suggestions. It's also easy to quickly edit an image with Generative Fill.

Galaxy AI is much more than just a software addition; it's the beating heart of the Galaxy S24. This artificial intelligence technology significantly expands the capabilities of the phone, especially in crucial areas such as communication, creativity and information retrieval. For example, by allowing your calls to be translated into other languages on the fly, the Galaxy S24 breaks down linguistic and cultural barriers, facilitating fluid and effortless interactions.

With Google's Circle to Search built-in, the Galaxy S24 delivers an intuitive and unprecedented online search experience. This feature allows users to launch searches simply by drawing a circle around an object or text on the screen, opening new avenues of discovery and insight. ;learning. This integration of AI into the user interface makes finding information fast, smooth, and incredibly convenient, providing a notable advantage over the standard user experience of the ;#8217;iPhone 15.

The Galaxy S24 doesn't just integrate AI into its interface; it also excels in performance and safety. With the AI-optimized Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the Galaxy S24 delivers an efficient and fast processing experience, essential for games and resource-intensive applications. When it comes to security, Samsung Knox provides multi-layered protection, keeping personal information safe from digital threats, surpassing the standard security features of the iPhone 15.

In addition, Samsung supports this increased performance with a heat dissipation solution. particularly effective heat, unlike the iPhone 15 which has the fault of quickly heating up a little too much, for example when recording video. For this, the manufacturer integrated a real steam chamber – a particularly advanced and efficient heat dissipation device, which can be found in other cutting-edge applications, such as for example in Sony's PS5 console.

The integration of such a device is long overdue in iPhones, while Samsung has several generations of experience, guaranteeing more stable operation even during very intense use . This vapor chamber is 1.5 larger than the S23.

On the material side, the two proposals are ultimately quite close. However, it is clear that the Galaxy S24 shines thanks to its new AI features – an area in which Apple is also expected, and should demonstrate its innovations in this area with the iPhone 16 generation.

Beyond the most entry-level iPhones generally offer slightly fewer services than their equivalents at Samsung. We thus have a slightly less bright screen, a refresh rate of 60 Hz compared to 120 Hz, less battery, and a telephoto lens with absent subscribers.

Which again places the bar rather in favor of the standard Galaxy S24. Especially since Samsung now guarantees 7 years of software updates for its smartphones, gaining a comparative advantage on which Apple could rely until this year.

< p>Note, however, that beyond the S24, the S23 will soon benefit from all the features of Galaxy AI via a software update.
