Goodbye Twitter, the social network has a new address

© Lemon squeezer

In 2023, Elon Musk decided to abandon the Twitter brand, as well as its logo with the little blue bird, in favor of “X”. Last year's rebranding affected every element of the social network, except one thing: the web address. Indeed, to access X on a browser, you still had to go to the address twitter.com. But today is also the end of this address.

If you open X on the web today, it is possible that the social network will announce the change of address on a small banner. On the other hand, even if you typed twitter.com on the URL bar, you will be redirected to x.com. On the other hand, this change was confirmed by Elon Musk, in a publication on his social network.

“All basic systems are now on X.com”, we read in this publication. In other words, Twitter's transition to X, which began in 2023, is now complete.

X: Elon Musk's new vision

As a reminder, Elon Musk aims to transform the old Twitter into a super application comparable to WeChat in China. Called project “X”, this aims to gradually include many functionalities essential to daily life on the social network.

It is for this reason that features such as audio and video calls were launched on the platform. And currently, X is working on a payment functionality that will be directly integrated into the social network. For paying users, X already offers an equivalent of ChatGPT, called Grok. Additionally, while the platform was focused on text publications, X recently launched an offensive on the video format.

  • In 2023, Elon Musk changed the Twitter brand to X
  • However, despite this rebranding, users continued to access the social network via the web address twitter.com
  • But now, the rebranding is completed, since the address twitter.com has just been replaced by X.com
  • As part of his “X” project, Elon Musk wants to transform the old Twitter into a comparable super application at WeChat in China
