GoPro Hero 12 Black review: we went karting with the CEO of GoPro

The champion of action cameras is back with his new proposition which should quickly become the queen in the field, I named the GoPro Hero 12. And what better way to put it to the test than to try to keep up on a kart with Nick Woodman, CEO of GoPro himself ?

The GoPro Hero 12 Black is already available at a price of 449.99 euros.

To that, you will need to add at least one card Micro SD, while an enduro battery, curved adhesive mount, mounting loop and knurled screw as well as a USB-C cable are provided.

With this new Hero 12, GoPro offers filming with a crazy resolution of 5.3k, for an ever more impressive rendering in broadcast large format. It's hard to believe that such a small camera can deliver such a sharp image, but it does. The real novelty in this sequel to the GoPro Hero 11 lies in HDR, where the Hero 12 has a more natural color rendering when strong light and powerful shadow are presented in the scene.

We can notice in our illustration video, where a light powerful drills regularly between the trees, the result still remains very convincing thanks to the capabilities of the new GoPro.

Stabilization is also a Essential essential point of action cameras. Withthe Hero 12, GoPro and its HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilizer apparently go even further. If it is difficult to see if there is a real difference with the old version, we can nevertheless see that the stabilization is exceptional, making my numerous passages and other jumps pass on the vibrators of the circuit for a trip on a calm lake.

Of course, it is possible to film in resolutions lower than 5.3K, notably in vertical formatin order to not have to crop the videos later in order to post them on social networks. I particularly appreciated the practicality of the touch screen, but also the possibility of using voice commands to start or stop a video while wearing gloves for example. Navigating the menus couldn't be simpler, and using the GoPro Hero 12 is simple.

To stand out from the GoProprevious model, the Hero 12 has a different design, with blue dots on its Jackson Pollock-style shell. In my opinion, this design is less classy than that of the Hero 11, but after all, what does that really matter for an action camera? The least obvious point with the GoPro camera is its difficulty in opening the charging port, something almost impossible without a fingernail.

This one has a very firm opening which makes changing the battery, recovering the SD card or loading the Hero 12 complicated. Quite logical given that it is waterproof, but frustrating to the point that I now use a rigid pick to avoid any risk of the nail turning over.

Comes next one of the biggest new features of the GoPro Hero 12 compared to its big sister, long requested by the community. A 1/4-20 thread has been added to the bottom of the camera, allowing it to be used with hardware less specific to GoPro.

Here in illustration, I used a tripod found in DIY stores to mount the Hero 12. A good initiative which still offers new mounting possibilities and versatility to the new GoPro.

The GoPro Hero 12 establishes the feat d 'increase its autonomy compared to its big sister, while keeping strictly the same battery. This offers maximum quality video shooting time of 52 minutes in a row before stopping due to excessive heating, which is indeed much longer compared to what the GoPro allowed Hero 11.

If the GoPro Quik application offers practical elements, we will however regret its editing capabilities, which are rather difficult to use. We will therefore prefer an editing application which has now proven itself, like InShot for example.

On the other hand, the connection between the camera and the application is quite well worked. By subscribing to a GoPro account, it is possible to automatically upload videos to a cloud, choosing or not to then free the MicroSD of its content. A particularly useful feature for those who have a card with reduced storage capacity.

No problem also connecting the camera, andusing the smartphone as a remote screen for the Hero 12 as well as managing it ci. It is now possible to follow the video feed on the smartphone when the GoPro is filming, which can be particularly useful.

It is now possible toconnect headphones or a Bluetooth headset to the GoPro Hero 12. You are probably thinking that listening to your videos while watching them on the small screen of the camera is not the most practical, and that is indeed the case.

On the other hand, using headphones or a Bluetooth headset equipped with a microphone allows you to record sound from further away, but also to use the GoPro's voice commands remotely. A particularly useful function when the camera is not within reach, for example outside a car.

GoPro once again shows that it is the leader undeniable action camera. The previous iteration is this time further improved, with its greater autonomy, an even more efficient stabilizer, and the highly anticipated addition of a thread giving it more versatility.

It does not There is no doubt that the GoPro Hero 12 Black is once again the best action camera of the moment, GoPro confirming its know-how by improving what was improveable on the GoPro Hero 11. Next step for GoPro, working on its mounting application, and potentially offering an easier-to-open charging flap.
