Otherwise, in its publication, Canalys notes that this is the first time that an iPhone “Pro” has topped the ranking of the most shipped smartphones in the world. And this only confirms the current trend: premium devices sell very well.
Apple number 1 thanks to premium
As a reminder, according to IDC figures, Apple was the world number 1 in the smartphone market, for the first time, in 2023. Apple shipped 234.6 million iPhones and saw its volume increase by 3.7%. ;nbsp;%. For its part, Samsung shipped 226.6 million devices, a drop of 13.6% compared to 2022.
This success of Apple in 2023 is largely attributed to growing consumer interest in premium smartphones, which is the Cupertino firm's specialty. According to Nabila Popal, research director at IDC, the premium segment now has a 20% share of smartphone shipments, thanks to trade-in offers and interest-free financing options.
“There has been a change in consumer purchasing habits in the smartphone market. Given the importance of a smartphone, consumers are willing to spend more to get a high-quality device that they can use for a longer period of time,” said Varun Mishra, principal analyst at Counterpoint Research.
