Apple confirms its position as leader in the smartphone market. In a publication on X, the company Canalys publishes the list of the 10 most shipped smartphone models in 2023 and this is dominated by the iPhone. Indeed, out of the 10 most popular models, 7 are iPhones, while 3 are Samsung.

Leading this ranking are the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 34 million shipments, the iPhone 15 Pro Max with 33 million shipments, the iPhone 14 with 29 million shipments, iPhone 14 Pro with 29 million shipments, as well as iPhone 13 with 23 million shipments. The most popular Samsung, with 21 million shipments, is in sixth place in this ranking. This is the Galaxy A14 4G. The other Samsung models in the Top 10 are the Galaxy A54 5G and the Galaxy A14 5G.

Otherwise, in its publication, Canalys notes that this is the first time that an iPhone “Pro” has topped the ranking of the most shipped smartphones in the world. And this only confirms the current trend: premium devices sell very well.

Apple number 1 thanks to premium

As a reminder, according to IDC figures, Apple was the world number 1 in the smartphone market, for the first time, in 2023. Apple shipped 234.6 million iPhones and saw its volume increase by 3.7%. ;nbsp;%. For its part, Samsung shipped 226.6 million devices, a drop of 13.6% compared to 2022.

This success of Apple in 2023 is largely attributed to growing consumer interest in premium smartphones, which is the Cupertino firm's specialty. According to Nabila Popal, research director at IDC, the premium segment now has a 20% share of smartphone shipments, thanks to trade-in offers and interest-free financing options.

“There has been a change in consumer purchasing habits in the smartphone market. Given the importance of a smartphone, consumers are willing to spend more to get a high-quality device that they can use for a longer period of time,” said Varun Mishra, principal analyst at Counterpoint Research.

  • iPhone 14 Pro Max was the most shipped smartphone in 2023
  • Of the 10 most popular models, 7 are iPhone and 3 are Samsung (but no Galaxy S23)
  • In 2023 , consumers became more interested in premium smartphones, which boosted iPhone sales
