Currently the smartphone market leader in China, according to IDC, the Honor brand is making a breakthrough in Europe. Recently, Counterpoint Research released data on smartphone shipments in Europe. And among the manufacturers who stood out in the first quarter of 2024, there is Honor. Indeed, compared to the same period in 2023, it shows a spectacular growth of 67% in its shipments. And thanks to this strong increase, Honor managed to overtake its rival Oppo, to become the fifth largest smartphone manufacturer in Europe, with a market share of 4%.

According to Counterpoint Research, Honor's strong growth in Europe is attributed to its sales in Western Europe, where its shipments more than doubled. Its sales were propelled by new models like the Magic V2, the Magic 6 and the Honor 90. As a reminder, the Honor brand was separated from Huawei. As a result, today, it is not subject to United States sanctions, and can therefore source components for smartphones (such as Qualcomm Snapdragon processors) without restrictions.

Otherwise, like Honor, the Realme brand, number 4 in the European market in the first quarter, showed strong growth. In fact, compared to the same period in 2023, its shipments increased by 59%. Realme models sold well in Spain, Italy, but also in Central and Eastern Europe.

Smartphone sales are on the rise again

As we mentioned in a previous article, smartphone shipments were finally on the rise in Europe , in the first quarter of 2024. Year-on-year, these shipments increased by 10%. However, in its report, Counterpoint warns that we are still far from the volume shipped before the pandemic.

“While we forecast low-single-digit market growth for the remainder of 2024, this is against the backdrop of an extremely poor 2023, and we do not expect to return to current levels. “before the pandemic so soon”, explains Jan Stryjak, associate director.

The number 1 in the European market, in the first quarter, was Samsung. This saw its shipments increase by 7%. Apple was number 2, despite a 1% drop in shipments. And in third place is Xiaomi, whose shipments increased by 11%. Otherwise, the Counterpoint report also highlights the emergence of Transsion's TECNO brand, which is gaining ground in Eastern Europe, even if it is not in the Top 5 of the first quarter.
