If the number calling you begins with these 4 digits, block it: it’s canvassing

Everyone is a victim of cold calling, without exception. According to a study conducted by UFC Que Choisir, the French are contacted by telephone at least 4 times a week without their prior agreement. Everyone gets called for unsolicited services and products, regardless of the day or time of day.

For a long time, people were advised to register on the red list, or the Bloctel directory, to protect themselves against calls. Although officially, telephone call centers are not allowed to contact people in this directory, the reality is very different. Despite the risk of financial sanctions, telephone advisors do not hesitate to contact people registered on Bloctel.

No more unsolicited calls with 06 or 07

However, the rules have been clear since March 1, 2023: call centers do not have the right to solicit people registered on Bloctel, they do not have the right to contact people registered on Bloctel. are not allowed to call on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, they can only call prospects from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. But above all, the government has also set rules on the numbers used by call centers.

In this case, no telephone advisor has the right to call you from a number that begins with 06 or 07. Even more precise, the call centers must use specific codes – that the French can block. If you are in mainland France, here are the codes for the cold calling centers: 0162, 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0378, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948, 0949. If a number calling you begins with these numbers: you can block it immediately so as not to be contacted.

For Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, the call center code is 09475. In Guyana, it is 09476, while in Martinique, it is # 8217;is 09477. Finally, in Reunion and Mayotte, these are 09478 and 09479. For those who no longer want to bother with aggressive telephone canvassing, the simplest thing is to take the time to block these numbers (or not pick up) as soon as they appear on your screen.

The only solution to put an end to canvassing

Bloctel is not an effective solution: the millions of French people registered there cannot rest easy today, despite the government's efforts. The best solution is a private solution published by Orange. Good news: this one is free.

Called Orange Telephone and available for download here (iOS and Android), it’s an application that is powered by the community. Millions of people have downloaded it and indicate when a cold calling number calls. Once you have installed it on your mobile, the application will notify you when a call comes from a call center. You can block it in one click without having to worry about missing an important call.
