LeBonCoin: your personal data may have been revealed

© LeBonCoin

This is an incident that LeBonCoin would have preferred to avoid. L’Informed reports that the site was the victim of a data leak on March 16 and 17. More precisely, the platform confirmed a “technical incident”. Following the latter, the personal information of certain buyers was displayed in the notification email received by the sellers following an initial exchange in the messaging system.

Banking information was not exposed

This bug is now fixed. Quoted by our colleagues, LeBonCoin adds: “It is important to note that the data of these buyers could only be viewed by the seller with whom they were in direct conversation. No third party had access to these elements”. Their passwords and banking information were also not revealed.

We also learned that the second-hand sales platform informed the National Commission of l& #8217;information technology and freedoms (CNIL) within 72 hours as required by the general regulations on the protection of personal data (GDPR) in such cases.

This case reminds us of a bug that occurred at Free a few weeks ago. Customers of the operator have in fact mistakenly accessed invoices from other subscribers on their personal space. we could thus read their surnames, first names, postal addresses, e-mail addresses, subscriber identifier, and even part of the RIB. Finally, the list of calls made was also available as part of this leak.

Free did not deny this incident, but clarified that it did not lasted only an hour and only concerned a fairly limited number of users compared to its clientele.

Due to its immense popularity, LeBonCoin is sometimes used by scammers who do not hesitate to target its users. We spoke to you in particular last December about QR Code scams which are multiplying.

Here, the seller sends you a QR code to flash which sends you to a secure payment page. Unfortunately, this is a trap that can cost you a lot of money, because the site imitates the authentic BonCoin page. Some customers have lost more than 1000 euros in these operations.
