British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will announce new public and private investment on Monday to strengthen the United Kingdom's nuclear deterrent program as well as the country's civilian nuclear industry, Downing Street announced on Sunday.

“The UK’s energy security and national security depend on nuclear power,” Downing Street says in a statement.

“This industry needs more skilled British workers,” it also says.

The Prime Minister will make the announcements from Barrow, in the north of England, a town he wants to see “prosper as a site for building British nuclear submarines”.
