Mark Zuckerberg's company is one of the world leaders in the field of artificial intelligence. And this week, it presents the latest version of its AI model: Llama 3. Compared to the previous version, this new model benefits from significant improvements. In addition to having presented Llama 3, Meta has also just launched its new Meta AI assistant, which is based on this technology.

Meta AI is a competing product of ChatGPT which is integrated into the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp applications. But it is also possible to use this new artificial intelligence on a dedicated site, on meta.ai. Unfortunately, this new competitor to ChatGPT is not yet available in France.

Accessible on meta.ai, the assistant does not yet support the French language

Meta says it is rolling out its assistant, for English-speaking users, in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, in addition to the United States. “[…] and we’re just getting started,” says the company.

However, it does not indicate when Meta AI will be available for other languages and in other countries. In any case, Meta plans to make its Llama 3 model multimodal (an AI that doesn't just process text) and multilingual.

In any case, the release of the Llama model is an important step for Meta, which has made generative artificial intelligence one of its priorities. “With Llama 3, we decided to build the best open models, comparable to the best proprietary models available today. We wanted to respond to developer feedback to increase the overall usefulness of Llama 3 and we are doing so while continuing to play a leading role in the responsible use and deployment of LLMs”< /em>, indicates Mark Zuckerberg's group.

In any case, Meta compares the performance of Llama 3 with that of models like Gemini Pro 1.5 from Google or Claude 3 Sonnet from Anthropics, via benchmarks. And based on human evaluations, the group suggests that Llama 3 variant 70B (and therefore, Meta AI) may be more useful than GPT-3.5. “This evaluation set contains 1,800 prompts that cover 12 key use cases: requesting advice, brainstorming, classification, answering questions closed, coding, creative writing, extraction, inhabiting a persona, answering open-ended questions, reasoning, rewriting and summarizing,” says Meta, regarding these assessments.

Meta AI is starting to appear everywhere

In any case, Meta's Llama 3 model is sufficiently advanced for the group to decide to deploy its Meta AI assistant in more countries, and also in more locations on its products and services. On Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the assistant can be called into private chats to ask for help (for example, in a friend chat group, the AI can suggest activities).
