Mother of missing baby charged with kidnapping

The mother of the one-year-old girl whose disappearance had been the subject of' an Amber Alert on Tuesday in Montreal was formally charged with kidnapping on Wednesday.

The woman of 18 years old appeared in court Wednesday afternoon in Montreal. She was accused of breaking into a house to commit a kidnapping.

The spokesperson for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP), Audrey Roy-Cloutier, specified that the prosecution opposed his release. The case will return to court on Thursday.

The girl was reported missing around 9:25 a.m. Tuesday from her maternal grandparents' house located in the Lachine borough, in the southwest of Montreal.
