Netflix and its rivals have competition. TikTok intends to launch its own series to capture our attention even more. And to initiate this ambitious project, the Chinese social network decided to trust Adam McKay and his production company Yellow Dot Studios. If you don't know this filmmaker, he's one of the big names in Hollywood in recent years with successful films such as The Big Short, Vice, or even Don’t Look Up.

An intriguing political comedy

The director will therefore produce a series created by Ari Cagan who already offers a podcast headed by Hyperobject Industries, a company owned by Adam McKay. This original creation will be turned vertically to fit the format of the platform. It will be broadcast from November 14 on TikTok.

Called Noble Energy, it is described as a satirical office comedy (we think very strongly of The Office< /em>). We will follow the daily life of an oil company “that fights against innovation, activists and others as they destroy the planet to protect their own interests& #8220;, according to Variety.

Our colleagues had access to the more detailed synopsis of this original creation and it seems quite promising. We learn that a massive explosion caused an oil spill on one of Noble Energy's offshore platforms. While the family risks losing everything, this first season will show us how public relations consultants try to limit the image damage and political implications of this event. Especially since the matter reaches the American Congress and the consequences are tragic.

Quoted by the specialized American media, Adam McKay is also full of praise for this project which is very important to him. to heart: “So when Staci Roberts-Steele from Yellow Dot and I realized how aware he (Ari Cagan Editor's note) was of the emergency of global warming and that he had a funny idea to challenge the oil companies, I quickly said yes”.

We will have to see how this initiative will materialize on the screen and if the mayonnaise will take on smartphone. In any case, we can trust Adam McKay, who has made it his specialty to create political comedies that hit the mark and denounce the major abuses of our time.

Have you ever heard of Noble Energy, and more broadly, what do you think of the fact that TikTok is launching into the creation of series? Tell us in the comments.
