The leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, confirmed that he had received death threats in recent days.

Questioned on this subject Friday in Montreal, as part of a press conference on the overhaul of the electoral map, the leader of the PQ thus confirmed the information which had been revealed in Le Journal de Montréal.

“What was published is true,” he commented.

Visibly upset, since the threats were addressed to him and his family, Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon had to interrupt the impromptu press briefing and walk away to collect himself for a few seconds, before continuing his response.

“It’s my private sphere, but everything that is [already] public, I confirm,” he concluded, still moved.

He specified that four days passed between receiving these threats and the arrest of a suspect. He congratulated the Sûreté du Québec for its “excellent work” in this regard.

“As of today, the investigation is still ongoing,” added Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon.

For its part, the Sûreté du Québec simply confirmed that a complaint had been received on March 4 and that investigators had arrested a man from the greater Montreal area on March 8 March, relating to threats made against a member of the National Assembly.

The SQ specified that the suspect had been released with a promise to appear.

She added that a search had been carried out at the individual's home, which led to the seizure of computer equipment. The threatening message had also been sent by email.

For her part, liberal MP Marwah Rizqy, who herself had suffered threats in 2022, wanted to show her support for the PQ leader, his wife and their three children. “It’s quite an unsettling time for them. No elected official should go through this type of moment. »
