Our colleagues confirm that the Star Wars series The Acolyte will be released on June 5, 2024 on Disney+. The opportunity for us to return to this project which should be out of the ordinary in the saga.
A story that moves away from Skywalker
If the exact synopsis of The Acolyte is not official, we already know that the story will focus on a young Jedi and her master who try to elucidate a series of mysterious crimes in the four corners of the galaxy. They fear a conspiracy that could shake up the established order.
The whole thing takes place during the High Republic (before episode I) which has not yet been explored by series or films. The Jedi reign supreme over this universe and the Sith seem to have disappeared. We won't have any Skywalkers on the horizon here, which is quite remarkable for a Star Wars project and opens up the field of possibilities.
A promising cast
As for the cast, it is quite promising. Leslye Headland, the co-creator of Russian Doll serves as showrunner of this fiction. The latter explained in 2021 to GameRant:
I mainly looked for people who, in my opinion, were capable of executing a good script. There were people like me who were like Dave Filoni acolytes late in life. I literally had an author who was like, “I’ve never seen any of them. I’ve never seen any Star Wars content.” And she was texting me before we started writing, she was like, “Luke and Leia are brother and sister, right”?”
We will also have the pleasure of meeting, among others, Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto ( The Good Place), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), or even Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games), Jodie Turner-Smith (Sex Education).
The next few months and weeks should be instructive for Disney. The big-eared firm could thus formalize this release date, and above all offer us a first trailer for this original creation. Enough to give us a more precise idea of what we can expect.
