Superman: why we can be optimistic for the DC film ?

© Warner Bros.

July 9, 2025. Remember this date, because it will mark the revival of DC Comics on the big screen. James Gunn and Peter Safran intend to recreate from scratch an extended cinematographic universe focusing on Super-Man. This first part is called Gods and Monsters. The opportunity for us to take stock of what we already know about this feature film.

What's it going to be about ?

For now, Warner Bros has remained fairly discreet about the story. However, we know that it will take place during Clark Kent's youth when he was a journalist for the Daily Planet. The latter must face his dual identity based on his heritage on Krypton and his childhood on Earth.

It's relatively classic, but ideal for rebooting the franchise and showing the origin of Super-Man, the most emblematic superhero of DC Comics with Batman.

A promising cast

The cast of the old DCEU was not retained. James Gunn prefers to focus on novelty and in particular on David Corenswet (We Own This City) in the role of Super-Man. At his side, rising figures from the world of Hollywood series and films: Rachel Brosnahan (An Ordinary Spy), Nathan Fillion (The Recruit), Isabela Merced (Rosaline), Edi Gathegi (Briarpatch), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Maria Gabriela de Faría (Franky), or Nicholas Hoult (The Great).

A breath of fresh air for DC

While DC films are no longer successful, James Gunn is probably making the right choice by focusing on figures less known to the public who are just waiting to prove themselves. The satisfaction of Rachel Brosnahan who plays Lois Lane is also a pleasure to see.

Recently interviewed by our colleagues from Variety, she explained as follows: “It’was quite incredible. Some of us met for the first time. And even some decided to meet again outside. It was amazing to hear the script out loud. As in all these films, there are a lot of action sequences. It is therefore very fun to hear the rhythm of the film and to hear the characters interpreted by the actors who play them. (…) You can't ask for more when you do something like this”.

We just want to see if this alchemy really took off on screen. Do you share our optimism for this new film, or would you prefer to remain cautious?? Tell us in the comments.

What it must remember:

  • The reboot of Super-Man will be released in July 2025
  • It will focus on the early life of Clark Kent
  • A new generation of actors is launched into the DC cinematic universe
