What is Tap to Pay on iPhone?

« With Tap to Pay on iPhone , merchants can enable contactless payment acceptance through a supported iOS app on an iPhone XS (or later) running the latest version of iOS,” Apple explains in its press release. .

Concretely, merchants can offer customers to pay on an iPhone. For you, the payment doesn't change: you hold your card, iPhone or Apple Watch close to the merchant's compatible iPhone, and that's it. All only contactless via NFC technology.

The advantage of Tap to Pay is therefore to be able to pay anywhere, including in the most remote places. All that is required is that the NFC communication takes place between the means of payment and the merchant's iPhone. No need for a payment terminal anymore.

In which stores does Tap to pay work on iPhone?

In all stores where the merchant has an iPhone. The only condition is that the company is based in France and has a bank account in a partner bank.

“Tap to Pay on iPhone has revolutionized the way consumers and businesses view mobile payments in the US, UK and Netherlands,” says Virginie Melaine-Christensen, Director General Director of Adyen France. “In addition, we saw how Tap to Pay on iPhone allows merchants to accept payments anywhere, without the need for additional hardware. What about security?

Always concerned about the security of user data, Apple had to wait to obtain validation from financial organizations to deploy its technology in France. Thus “Customer payment data is protected by the same technology that ensures the confidentiality and security of Apple Pay” explains Apple. And added:

All transactions made via Tap to Pay on iPhone are encrypted and processed using the Secure Element, and as with Apple Pay, Apple has no information about what is purchased or who made the purchase.
