A few weeks ago, we learned that after a vote by representatives and senators, Congress had adopted a text which includes measures aimed at banning the social network from the United States. But Bytedance (TikTok's parent company) quickly indicated that it had no intention of selling its application, despite this American law, requiring TikTok to cut its ties with China.

Faced with the American offensive, TikTok counterattacks!

TikTok has been in the sights of the American authorities for several long years now. The Chinese application is notably accused of allowing the Chinese government to spy on and manipulate American citizens. But this Tuesday, May 7, Bytedance decided to counterattack, by filing a complaint… against the United States.

According to the social network and its lawyers, the text adopted by the American representatives and senators is quite simply “unconstitutional& #8220;. In a complaint filed in a federal court in Washington, the plaintiffs state: “For the first time in history, Congress has passed a law that bans a platform of 'phrase, and only it, permanently on a national scale, and which prohibits every American from participating in a unique online community of more than a billion people worldwide.”< /i>

Remember that the American text threatens TikTok with banning, unless Bytedance resells its network. One way for the authorities to ensure that TikTok cannot be controlled by the Chinese government. For TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew: “The facts and the Constitution are on our side and we expect to prevail.&amp ;#8221; Remember that TikTok has more than 170 million followers in the United States.

The law Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act gives Bytedance 270 days (plus an additional 90 days under certain conditions) to resell TikTok. Despite all the reluctance of the American authorities, TikTok would (according to Bytedance) help thousands of local businesses to prosper, not to mention a contribution of $24 million to the American economy.< /p>

It now remains to be seen whether Bytedance will succeed in making the American state bend in the face of what looks like “thug methods” according to the parent company of TikTok.
