Vision Pro: how many applications are available ?

© Apple

At the start of the year, Apple launched its Vision Pro headset and officially entered the mixed reality market, in competition with the Meta group. For the moment, everything suggests that this new Apple product is selling well. But for users to later be able to massively adopt the mixed reality platform, it must have maximum use. And these uses are possible thanks to the applications that developers will offer on visionOS.

However, at the moment, the number of applications specially designed for the Vision Pro headset is relatively small. In a press release, Apple says that as of February 1, there were more than 600 apps and games designed for its new platform. For entertainment, Apple was able to bring platforms like Disney+, Max, or the NBA application into this new adventure. And of course, the Cupertino company has also optimized its Apple TV+ platform for headphones.

As for productivity, we find apps like Box, but also the Microsoft suite, which includes Teams, Word and Excel. Otherwise, when it comes to games, there are 250, including NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition, Sonic Dream Team and Super Fruit Ninja. But it should also be noted that major platforms, including Netflix and YouTube, are absent.

Services accessible via the web or via iOS versions

If the number of apps designed for the Vision Pro is still in the hundreds, headset users will still be able to use other services via the iOS or iPadOS versions of these services. Indeed, the Vision Pro headset can run apps for smartphones or tablets, provided that the developer agrees.

“With more than 600 new space experiences to explore in the all-new App Store, as well as more than a million compatible apps on iOS and iPadOS, users can discover a wide range of apps that push the boundaries of what’s possible.” , says Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.

Finally, it's important to specify that the Vision Pro headset includes Safari. Therefore, as on a computer, it will be possible to use services that do not have a native application, via the web versions.

  • At launch, there will be more than 600 apps designed specifically for Apple's Vision Pro headset
  • In addition to these headset-optimized apps, there are also more of a million iPhone or iPad applications that are compatible with it
  • And thanks to Safari, it is always possible to access a service that does not has no app on visionOS, thanks to its web version for computers
