In a press release, the OPP said it received a report early Thursday morning regarding a suspected firearms smuggling operation. Two people were seen on a boat on the St. Clair River, which is near the community of Port Lambton, Ontario, and which runs along the Canada-United States border. According to police, 36 firearms were discovered. The alleged criminals reportedly fled on foot. Investigators did not provide details on the exact location where the weapons were taken. found and say officers are also searching for the boat used by the suspects. OPP Detective Inspector Lee Fulford says Illegal firearms pose a serious risk to public safety and are often used by organized crime groups, including street gangs, to commit violent crimes.
