The Trois-Rivières police command post was dispatched to the Maïkan Aventure outdoor center to find a missing kayaker.

Trois-Rivières police have suspended search operations to find a kayaker missing since Thursday, October 26, but mention that the investigation is still ongoing.

A large police contingent was dispatched to the Saint-Maurice River to find Pierre Couture, a 65-year-old kayaker.

The Trois-Rivières police were looking for him and surveyed the banks of the Saint-Maurice River. The firefighters, for their part, carried out patrols on the river. The Coast Guard was notified and the Sûreté du Québec helicopter was dispatched to the scene. To this were added drones from civil security and the fire department.

Pierre Couture launched his boat in the center of full air Maïkan Thursday early afternoon.

Pierre Couture was last seen on Thursday, October 26 while preparing his equipment, according to video surveillance footage from the outdoor center air Maïkan Aventure.

Friday evening, a “formal complaint of disappearance” was filed with the Trois-Rivières police department. Preliminary research was then carried out at the end of the day.

Pierre Couture's daughter and Trois-Rivières police speak of an experienced kayaker who used to paddle up to the height of the KI golf club -8-EB, on the Saint-Maurice River, and to go down to the island of La Potherie, according to the press release issued by the Trois-Rivières police department. Still according to his daughter, Pierre Couture regularly ventures on the river.

When he left the Maïkan center, he was dressed in a diving suit, an orange long-sleeved sweater and an orange flotation vest. According to Benoît Bourbeau, an employee of Maïkan Aventure, the equipment he was equipped with was that recommended by Coast Guard security measures.

The boat used by Pierre Couture is a very light and practically unsinkable competition kayak, but very unstable, explains Mr. Bourbeau, a worrying characteristic, according to him.

The Trois-Rivières police department invites all people who could provide information likely to help locate Pierre Couture to contact the Police Department at (819) 691-2929, ext. 6.
