Star Citizen is the highest crowdfunding campaign in history, with an indecent amount having just reached < strong>644 million dollars, or a whopping 586,422,515 euros. But, what type of game can require such an amount of development? When we know that Red Dead Redemption II cost $500 million to produce (excluding marketing), we can expect an exceptional experience here.

< strong>Star Citizen is an MMO set in space, an area that is currently booming in the video game industry. Also consisting of a single-player part called Squadron 42, the game is particularly known for its exceptional cast being part of the adventure, such as Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, John Rhys Davies, Gillian Anderson, Henri Cavill, Andy Serkisand many others. However, this is not the only reason for which Star Citizen is known, the other being less glorious. The project began in 2012, with the title in development since 2013, more than 10 years ago now. If the title is currently playable, it has been in Alpha for 10 years, which has obviously sparked controversy in the industry and among players. Even not yet in the Beta phase, everyone is wondering if Star Citizen will one day end up being released, its director having declared that the title could be released in 2014. This November, the title's 25 biggest donors showed their devotion by spending a total of $3,497,000 to support the game developed by Cloud Imperium Games studio. Why specifically during this time? The opportunity for the project to raise new funds, while the studio received95,299,880 euros in 2023, with 21,078,465 euros in November alone. A success which can probably be explained by the fact that, finally, the game's single-player campaign is entering its last phase of development after so many years. So let's hope that it will be available soon, and that it will be worthy of the financial involvement of the players, while the multiplayer component of the game is still in development.
