After Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the idea of another series in this universe is no longer taboo at all. And it was Giancarlo Esposito himself who addressed the subject during the last Emmy Awards ceremony.
The rise of Gustavo Frings ?
The actor would like a new salvo of episodes dedicated to his character Gustavo Fring:
I think that eventually there should be a Gustavo Fring spin-off, and there could be. I have a lot of premises that I would like to push. If I were with him, I'd tell Vince Gilligan that we should do a series about Gus's rise.
< p>He adds: “Currently, he is on another series, but let him come back to see me in a few years, because the&# 8217;Gus's rise is interesting. Knowing its history and its relationship with the Chilean hierarchy is interesting. His family relationships too.”
ABC wants new Breaking Bad series
And in fact, the showrunner had already approached the idea of a new spin-off series in the past. He was not opposed to such a project: “It's fun to think about what would happen to the characters, but it doesn't make me say, 'I wish I could say more about this story.' But who knows, in a few years, maybe”.
On the side of AMC, the channel that produced the two series , we also want to see other fictions located in the universe of Breaking Bad see the light of day. In 2022, the channel's program director, Dan McDermott emphasized:
I can assure you that we are doing everything in our power to encourage Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould to continue this universe. I think you should ask them instead, but our door will always remain open to them. I look forward to the day when Vince or Peter or our friends at Sony call me and say, “Hey, I think we came up with a new idea for a series. in this universe”.
Anyway, and if this spin-off were to see the light of day, it wouldn't be for a while. Indeed, Vince Gilligan is currently working on a series which stars Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul). This original creation will be broadcast on the Apple TV+ platform.
