Apple is preparing a new Android application: what is it ?

When Google launches an application, it is generally offered on its Android operating system, as well as on iOS, the competing platform. Apple, for its part, prefers to keep its users in its ecosystem. As a result, it is rare for an Apple service to be available on both iOS and Android. One exception is Apple Music, which is offered on both platforms.

But apparently, Apple is also ready to launch its streaming video platform, Apple TV+, on Google's operating system. In any case, this is what is suggested by a job offer from Apple, which was spotted by Bloomberg. Indeed, the Cupertino company is looking for an Android developer for the Apple TV team.
“The team of the & #8217;Apple TV app is looking for a proactive, hardworking and experienced Senior Android Engineer to lead the development of fun new features and to help build an app used by millions of people to watch and experience TV and sports”< /em>, we read in this announcement.

Apple TV+ looking for a new audience ?

Obviously, for the moment, this information should be considered with caution, pending an official announcement from Apple. But in any case, it would be logical for the Cupertino company to want to offer its Apple TV+ streaming service on Android smartphones and tablets. Indeed, this availability would allow the streaming service to attract new subscribers who do not use the iOS platform.

Apple TV+ is today one of Netflix's main competitors. And the Cupertino company continues to invest in strengthening the content of this service with films, series, as well as sport. Otherwise, as the Android Police site notes, Apple already offers Apple TV applications for Android. However, these are designed for Android TV (the TV version of Android), but not for Android tablets or smartphones.

  • Unlike Google, Apple already offers few applications on rival platforms (Apple Music's Android application is one of the rare exceptions)
  • But he would like to develop an app that will allow you to watch Apple TV+ content on Android smartphones and tablets
  • This is in any case what is suggested by a new job offer for an Android developer position for the Apple TV team
  • As it continues to invest in films, series and sports content from Apple TV+, Apple could increase its subscriber base by opening its video streaming service to Android users
