Like every year, the Apple keynote during which Tim Cook unveils his new iPhones was eagerly awaited. That's it, end of suspense. The iPhone 14s are here. Wednesday September 7, during its conference Far Out, the Cupertino company presented its four new models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The company has chosen to drop the mini version to offer a model between the standard version and the two Pros with this new vintage.

Of all of them, the “standard” iPhone 14 is obviously the one that all eyes are on. It is certain, it will very quickly become the most coveted smartphone on the market. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 13. But what differences are there between these two smartphones ? What new features and changes does the new iPhone 14 feature compared to the model it replaces&nbsp ;? To help you see more clearly and make your choice with full knowledge of the facts, here is a special comparison iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13. You will then have all the keys in hand to make your decision.

Design, performance, autonomy, camera… In this comparison, we will review all these elements to compare the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13. Differences as well as common points, you will know everything about the iPhone 14 .

Design differences?

Apple has chosen to keep a design that works. Thus, the new iPhone 14 sports the (almost) same rectangular design that we have known for several generations, with a few differences here and there. Indeed, we note a thicker smartphone, because of the larger photo sensors. Although it is more compact, going from 7.65 mm to 7.8 mm, the iPhone 14 is nevertheless a tad lighter. It weighs 172 grams while its predecessor weighed 173 grams. A tad.

The Cupertino company therefore offers few changes to the design of its iPhone 14. We therefore find a format offering a very comfortable grip with a 6.1 screen. inches. The glass back of the phone is still flat with an aluminum design by Gorilla Glass Victus. Glossy back and matte colored edges: a recipe that works.

Nothing new on the screen side

Apple plays it safewith his iPhone 14. In fact, Tim Cook is banking on an absolutely similar screen, without any difference. Super Retina XDR with OLED technology and a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels at 460 ppi. Nothing is moving in that regard: the contrasts are striking and the brightness is stunning. All protected by Ceramic Shield, as was already the case on the iPhone 13. However, the size/screen ratio has been improved by Tim Cook's teams. The iPhone 14 boasts wider width and thinner bezels.

If we hoped to see the famous notch disappear, it sticks. However, note that the Cupertino company has chosen to equip its two iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with a double punch with the arrival of Dynamic Island.

New colors for the iPhone 14

If the design and screen of the new iPhone 14 have not really evolved since the previous generation, Apple is still presenting three new colors, in addition to Black and Stellar White. The iPhone 14 is therefore available in Blue, Mauve and a new Red for (Product)RED.

iPhone 14, more powerful than the iPhone 13?

For the first time since the iPhone 7, Apple has chosen not to equip its new baby with a latest generation chip. Thus, the iPhone 14 features the A15 Bionic, the chip presented by the Cupertino company last year. If the standard model of this range does not have the right to the A16 Bionic, unlike the premium versions, the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 will not have the same performance.

Indeed, the A15 Bionic chip is getting a makeover and has been improved by Apple with not a 4-core GPU but a 5-core GPU. Enough to make all the difference. Thus, the new iPhone 14 reveals a 25% improvement in graphics performance compared to its predecessor. In short, the iPhone offers similar power to the iPhone 13 Pro.

Better autonomy

The Lightning port is still there in the iPhone 14. For those who were hoping for a USB-C port, you will have to wait a little longer. As with the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 does not come with its charger. The new iPhone, however, offers a larger capacity battery: 3,279 mAh for the iPhone 14 compared to 3,227 mAh for the iPhone 13. This should allow the iPhone 14 to accompany you longer. The Cupertino company promises ever more efficient autonomy: up to 20 hours of video playback, compared to 19 hours on the iPhone 13.

Best in case of emergency

For emergency situations, Apple presents “Emergency SOS via satellite”. This satellite connectivity is a real revolution because it allows you to contact the emergency services closest to you in the event of an incident, through a mesh of spatial sensors which are not parasitized by the potential interference of large cities.

But this satellite connectivity is also very effective if you are lost without any antenna nearby. This service is free for the next two years.

Also, your iPhone 14 is able to detect when you have just had a serious car accident and automatically call for help. It also notifies your emergency contacts.

An improved camera

Where there is really something new is on the camera side. Indeed, the iPhone 14 has an advanced dual camera and offers a brand new 12 megapixel sensor. Bigger, wider, it captures even more light for better results. Whether it's wide-angle or ultra-wide-angle. Apple has also revised its copy with a new reworked algorithm. You therefore have more qualitative photos compared to the iPhone 13, especially those you take at night. The selfie camera, for its part, is equipped with a new TrueDepth sensor with an f/1.9 aperture and, for the first time, autofocus.

Video enthusiasts are not left out since the iPhone 14 offers Action mode, which allows you to take quality videos of a moving subject with minimal shaking, impressive stabilization and therefore cleaner rendering .

Okay, let's be honest: the real difference between the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 comes down to the price… For us, at least. Indeed, in the United States, the prices of the two smartphones are the same but in France, the bill is really steep. The entire range sees its prices increase by 15% on average.

The increase of 120 euros hurts. Blame it on taxes and the conversion from dollar to euro. Thus, the iPhone 14, we are talking about the standard version, exceeds the thousand euros for the first time. It is available from 1019 euros. Despite some improvements here and there, the pill has difficulty passing.

Below is the price range of Apple's new iPhone 14:

  • iPhone 14 (128 GB): 1019 euros
  • iPhone 14 (256 GB): 1149 euros
  • iPhone 14 (512 GB): 1409 euros

Availability of the new iPhone 14

Unveiled on September 7, the new iPhone 14 is available for pre-order today, this Friday, September 9, 2022, from 2 p.m. on the official Apple website or at other e -tradespeople. It will be officially available on September 16, 2022.

Let's make things clear: the iPhone 14 is not intended for current owners of an iPhone 13 but rather for those with an iPhone 12, or even older, who want a new iPhone. Indeed, despite some improvements, nothing is revolutionary enough to push iPhone 12 customers to change devices so quickly.

The iPhone 14 incorporates the characteristics of the Pro range of the iPhone 13. The camera is greatly improved, with new sensors and technologies for photos of sensational quality. Apple has also improved the autonomy of its iPhone 14 compared to its iPhone 13 and is offering new colors to satisfy consumers. Nothing revolutionary then.

This back-to-school keynote marks above all the death of the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini, these too compact models failed to appeal to users. If the iPhone 13 mini is still available on the Apple website, it should not take long for it to be withdrawn.

If you want really something new, we advise you to turn to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. These two models, less mainstream and therefore more expensive, present many more breathtaking innovations such as the Dynamic Island, an incredible software innovation. There, you will be disoriented.
