Dexter: 3 things to know about the return of the legendary series

In July 2023, we learned that Showtime was preparing a new ten-episode prequel series called Dexter: Original Sin . While part of the casting is now known, the opportunity is ripe to take stock of what we already know about this fiction which should be broadcast in 2025 on Paramount+.

What will be the story of the series ?

This production will allow us to follow the debut of Dexter Morgan in the Miami police and what drove him to become a serial killer. The story takes place in 1991, 15 years before the episodes of the original saga. Having just graduated, the latter is only an intern and he must prove himself.

According to the official synopsis:

Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter as he transitions from student to vengeful serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without being detected by law enforcement. 8217;order. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensic pathology internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.

Quoted by our colleagues from Parade, Clyde Phillips, executive producer of the series, did not mask his enthusiasm: “It’s a privilege to consider going even further with these complex and iconic characters, as well as the stories, themes and possibilities may they inspire”.

An inspired cast

To embody this rejuvenation of the characters, Showtime has set its sights on Patrick Gibson who will play young Dexter. He is particularly known for his participation in the series The OA and Shadow and Bone. At his side, a bunch of sure values and in particular Christian Slater (Mr Robot, True Romance) who slips into the shoes of his father, or even Molly Brown (Evil, Billions) who will be his sister on screen.

An expanding universe

We already had Dexter, then Dexter: New Blood, a production set ten years after the original series. In this new prequel, it is therefore entirely possible that we will meet protagonists already well known to fans of the saga but in a younger version.
