Have you received this tax notice sent in error?

By connecting to their immobilier.gouv.fr space this week, some taxpayers received the following message: “In view of your situation, you nevertheless remain liable for housing tax on second homes”.

Problem: they do not have a second home. This mishap just happened to our colleagues d’actu Occitanie who decided to find out more. Especially since they realized that testimonials from Internet users were flooding in on this subject on social networks.

How to rectify this error?

Contacted, the General Management of Public Finances (DGFiP) did not deny this problem. This is indeed an error on the part of the Tax Office, and these tax notices were indeed wrongly sent to those concerned.

Quoted by the local information site, the administration explains as follows:

Certain users who have recently moved may have wrongly received a housing tax notice on a second home, our services having two known addresses concerning them.

The problem comes from the fact that the Tax Office has two known addresses in your name and may therefore have thought that you have a second home. So, what to do if you are affected? You must go to your immobilier.gouv.fr area and report the problem via messaging. Another alternative: call the number 08 09 401 401.

Whatever happens, and as Actu.fr reminds us, the housing tax is indeed maintained for everyone who owns a second home. Non-monthly taxpayers can consult their tax notices since Tuesday November 7, and this will be from November 20 for all those who are monthly.

Regarding paper notices, receipts will take place between November 8 and 20 for monthly payments, and between November 22 and 29 for others. As for payment, it must be made before December 15, 2023, the latest deadline.

As a reminder, the periods for sending tax notices are unfortunately an opportunity for cybercriminals to launch numerous large-scale scams. In a recent article, we cited the 4 most popular tax scams, and we gave you advice to avoid the worst. You can always read it again here.

Are you affected by this error? If so, do not hesitate to testify in the comments.

What to remember:

  • Taxpayers have received a tax notice in error
  • This is the housing tax on second homes
  • it is possible to correct this error on the tax website or by telephone
