Un man from Brandon, west of Winnipeg, was arrested for fatally hitting a teenager in October 2023. Police say he was driving at twice the legal limit.

On October 5 at approximately 5:00 p.m., police were notified of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist.

The cyclist, Antoine Sutherland, was 15 years old. He was struck while crossing Victoria Avenue northbound on his way home from school. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

According to a press release from the City of Brandon, the 24-year-old driver stopped at the scene and waited for police and emergency services. He was not injured.

An investigation by Brandon Police, the Forensic Identification Unit and a collision analyst determined that the accused's vehicle was rolling dangerously westbound on Victoria Avenue when he struck the cyclist.
