Moreover, Marvel had already explained: “The origin story of Echo returns to Maya Lopez, whose the callous behavior in New York catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and understand the meaning of family and community if she wants to move forward.”

Positive reviews

As for the critics who had the chance to see the first episodes of the series, the feedback is quite enthusiastic, well only cautious. So, Rob Keyes of Screenrant explains: “I watched the first three episodes of Marvel's Echo. She does some unexpected things, but I'm not yet convinced until I see the full 5-episode season. The return of Wilson Fisk and Daredevil is simply brilliant and the series is mainly set in the old Daredevil universe.”

The Hollywood Handle judge: “Echo, c’ is the MCU like you've never seen it. It's bloody, action-packed and scary. Alaqua Cox is so admirably talented that it’s impossible not to enjoy. Some plot moments could have been better developed, but this series is honestly a real success.”

Podcaster Tyrell Charles thinks the series is promising, even if he has some doubts: “I’saw 3 episodes of Echo. A grounded, character-driven story that hints at bigger things to come. The emphasis on Maya's indigenous heritage and personal history intrigues me; and although some quiet moments slow the pace, when the action scenes arrive, they are indeed brutal.”

Finally, Emily Murray of Total Film doesn't say any differently even if she adds some criticism: “J& ;#8217;enjoyed the first two episodes of Echo, with an incredible (and violent) fight scene that I want to watch again and again. The sound design is huge. The brilliant Alaqua Cox continually draws me in, but I found the storytelling and pacing shaky. I can't wait to see what happens next!”

On Rotten Tomatoes, Echo's score currently stands at 67%, which is honorable without being extraordinary. It's a little worse on Metacritic: 59.
