Elon Musk gives new information on the release of the Optimus robot

If Tesla is today mainly a manufacturer of electric vehicles, it has other activities. And among these other activities, there is the development of Optimus, the humanoid robot that the manufacturer wants to offer to accomplish dangerous and boring tasks. Tesla is also making significant progress in the field of robotics, since unlike its old prototypes, the one that was presented in December is a little closer to a final product.

And today, Elon Musk even allows himself to give some information on the release or the price of this future Tesla robot. For example, during Tesla's quarterly earnings conference call, Musk raised the possibility that the company could start delivering robots as early as next year. “I think we have a good chance of shipping a number of Optimus units next year”, said declared the boss of Tesla.

But he, at the same time, called for caution, because at this stage, it is still impossible to make a precise prediction. In any case, the team responsible for developing Optimus would move forward quickly. And Elon Musk has indicated that Tesla will regularly publish information on the progress of this team.

A project even more important than electric cars ?

The Optimus project is important to Elon Musk, who believes that it could be more valuable than anything Tesla has developed so far. Indeed, if the manufacturer manages to realize its vision, this type of robot could have a significant impact on the global economy.

Otherwise, Musk has also already mentioned the price at which Tesla could sell the Optimus robot. On X, he indicated that despite the complexity of the humanoid robot, the price could end up being less than half the price of a vehicle.

And to one person who asked if the robot could cost between $25,000 and $35,000, he indicated that over time, Optimus could cost less than that.
However, here too, the information should be considered with caution. Moreover, in the past, Elon Musk has already made very optimistic predictions.

Anyway, for this one, Tesla is very well placed to offer humanoid robots. “Tesla is arguably already the largest robot manufacturer in the world; It’s just a robot with four wheels”, he said.

  • Tesla is moving forward with the development of its Optimus humanoid robot, the new prototype of which was presented in December
  • Elon Musk indicates that despite the difficulties, it is possible that Tesla will begin to ship robots from 2025
  • But he also called for caution, because no precise prediction is possible at this stage
  • The project is important for Tesla, because the robot market could be even more valuable than automobiles in the future
