Furiosa: 3 questions about the new Mad Max film

© Warner Bros

This time it's it, the first images of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa have just been revealed. While this feature film should be one of the great cinematographic moments of the year 2024, we tell you everything we already know about this production.

What is it about?

As its name suggests, Furiosa will allow us to follow this character already present in Fury Road in her youth. Warner Bros has also revealed the synopsis of this feature film:

As the world collapses, young Furiosa is torn from the Green Earth of the Mothers and falls into the hands of a large horde of bikers led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping the wastelands, they come across the Citadel presided over by Joe the Immortal. As the two tyrants battle for dominance, Furiosa must survive numerous trials to find a way to return home.

As for the trailer, it packs a punch view, and we can trust George Miller, the director, to respect the codes of the saga.

What casting for Furiosa?

The distribution of this new Mad Max is very solid. We thus find Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Game) in the lead role of Furiosa. Alongside him, we have Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Nathan Jones (Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw), Angus Sampson (The Lincoln Defense ), Daniel Webber (The Dirt), Tom Burke (The Souvenir), Quaden Bayles (Three Thousand Years to Wait for You >), Lachy Hulme (The Secret River).

Charlize Theron is therefore not in the casting as Furiosa. George Miller already explained this in October 2020 to our colleagues at the New York Times: “For a long time, I thought that we could simply use the de- aging (editor's note) by computer for Charlize. But I don't think we're there yet.”

As for Marvel star Chris Hemsworth, he didn't hide his pleasure at joining the saga stating that it was “by far the best experience of my career, and something I am most proud of”.

What is the release date?

We'll have to wait a little longer before going to enjoy Furiosa at the cinema. It is in fact on May 22, 2024 that this feature film will be released in French cinemas. Regardless, this first trailer really reassured us, and this film seems to be on very good track. What do you think of these first images, and are you thinking of going to see this feature film? Tell us in the comments.
