Galaxy Ring: we know more about the future Samsung connected ring

Like its rival Apple, Samsung is all about monitoring health and well-being. The manufacturer already offers a series of health features on its Galaxy smartphones, and also markets competitors to the Apple Watch. But Samsung wants to go even further, by offering a whole new category of products, not yet found among its mobile competitors: a connected ring.

In January, during the presentation of its new Galaxy S24 series, Samsung also announced that it was working on a connected ring called Galaxy Ring. However, the manufacturer has not yet given any information about this future product.

But, in an article published this week (via 9to5Google), the Korean media ETNews reports that Samsung is expected to present its smart ring at the next Unpacked event, which is reportedly scheduled for July. During this event, Samsung is also expected to launch its new folding smartphones.

Health features, and different sizes offered ?

Otherwise, the article also discusses the different features that will be offered on the Galaxy Ring. Samsung would equip this ring with sleep tracking features and sensors capable of doing ECGs and monitoring blood circulation.

In addition to health features, the ring would also support contactless payments. And it would even be able to control other electronic devices. Furthermore, the ring would be offered in 8 sizes.

Apple would also prepare its ring

Unlike Samsung, Apple is very discreet about connected rings. However, recent rumors indicate that the Cupertino company is also considering it. Indeed, the ring would make it possible to offer monitoring of the user's health, in a more discreet form factor than watches. But, as usual, since this information does not come from an official source, caution is advised.

Otherwise, remember that if you want to use a connected ring to track your health, this type of device already exists on the market. The most well-known brand is Oura, which has been around for years. This has already reacted to the announcement of the Galaxy Ring by Samsung.

“With new features published regularly, Oura has the strongest intellectual property portfolio, both hardware and software, for smart rings, with 100 granted patents, 270 pending patent applications and more than 130 registered trademarks. New players entering the market are validation for this product category and push us to aim higher to serve our members and community,” said Tom Hale, CEO of Oura.
