X, the former Twitter, which now belongs to Elon Musk, continues its transformation. This week, the platform announces support for a new publication format called “Article”. And as its name suggests, this format allows you to publish long, or even very long, content directly on X, instead of going through services such as WordPress or Medium.

As a reminder, Elon Musk has already raised the character limit for paid accounts. Basic, Premium and Premium+ subscribers of the platform have the ability to post publications of 25,000 characters, with some formatting options. But for those who want to post even longer content, X articles have a limit of more than 100,000 characters, or more than about 15,000 words, according to a test carried out by our colleagues at Engadget.

However, this new feature is reserved for users of X's Premium+ subscription, and for organizations verified by the platform. The composition of articles is done on the web version of X, where users who have access use an editor to compose and format the text. Obviously, the format supports the main formatting elements, such as bold, italics, and bullets. It is also possible to insert images or videos.

Integrated articles on X

Once the article is published, it appears on a new dedicated tab on the user's profile, as well as on the feeds of the account's subscribers. On the other hand, it is important to specify that unlike a post of 25,000 characters, this is a type of content in its own right. X articles can be considered as real posts, on which you will have to click to read the content, but which are hosted by The way these articles appear on the timelines also distinguishes them from links to content external to the platform. “Posts will also be easily recognizable with a unique icon and layout, ensuring your long-form content stands out”, reads the&# 8217;announcement.

In any case, with this new functionality, X brings more value to its paid versions for the general public and for businesses. On the other hand, it is possible that the format will help the platform realize its vision of becoming a super-app similar to WeChat in China.

  • After authorizing publications of 25,000 characters, X launches its article format for even longer texts
  • This can be used as an alternative to platforms such than Medium or WordPress
  • But the feature is only available to Premium+ subscribers and verified businesses
