How to choose the right smartphone based on performance ?

Samsung, Apple, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo… Smartphone manufacturers follow one another and are similar. While some innovate regularly, particularly at Android, others focus more on the user experience and still others prefer to offer you more durable devices.

But then, how to choose the right power for your smartphone ? And how to see clearly in the face of all the advantages put forward by the manufacturers ? In this guide, we give you the keys to navigate without getting trapped. Price, speed or design: nothing escapes a proper selection.

After choosing the screen , be aware that performance can also play a role when selecting your smartphone. Moreover, the three major ranges of smartphones are distinguished in particular by their power and their price. The entry-level models are thus the cheapest and slowest, and you clearly don't want Do not choose them for the sake of your mental health, given their Olympic slowness from the first months of use. We really do not recommend this type of device, except perhaps if you are only looking to make calls and read emails. In any case, there are many other technical features that can be used to lower the price.

A mid-range device will do the trick for a limited budget and basic use (office, reading, telecommunications). But you also risk quickly being disappointed by the slowness, from the first semester of use. This is normal: any component loses its splendor over time. A high-end, or 'premium', device, and therefore worth up to a thousand euros or more, will on the other hand be able to last several years even with intensive use. A Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, a Google Pixel 8 Pro or an iPhone 15 Pro Max will therefore be perfect for the most demanding, for example. On the other hand, you often have to pay almost a thousand euros for this type of product: this is clearly not the best option to save money.

To compare the speed of smartphone logic cards, it is advisable to consult the benchmarks carried out by dedicated apps such as AnTuTu or Geekbench. You will certainly notice that the greater the number of active processor cores, the more powerful the smartphone.

Furthermore, be aware that the choice of processor for your smartphone depends on the actions you want to perform on a daily basis. For video editing with CapCut, playing video games or filming in 4K, choose a high-end chip.

Please note that some smartphone manufacturers also offer proprietary design chips. In other words, the manufacturer takes the opportunity to optimize its software and hardware offering, jointly. This is all the more true when the brand is also responsible for developing the operating system from A to Z, and not just the associated overlay. Examples of this type include Google and its Tensor G3 for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro running stock Android, or the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max with the A18 Pro motherboard running iOS.< /p>

The latter is designed on the SoC model (system on chip). In other words, the CPU, the graphics card, the Neural Engine dedicated to calculations boosted by artificial intelligence or even the RAM are integrated on the same printed circuit.

Smartphones today are generally offered with four to twelve gigabytes of RAM. Exceptions exist below this range for emerging markets, or up to sixteen gigabytes for some mobiles dedicated to gamers or simply high-end.

Thanks to the RAM, your smartphone is able to perform many tasks simultaneously. And therefore, to keep several apps open without fear of slowdown.

RAM is measured in gigabytes; the higher the number, the more brilliantly the device will cope with multitasking. Be aware, however, that apps are very demanding today, and that a smartphone with only four gigabytes of RAM risks quickly running out of steam.

Finally, let us point out that the release date of your chip can also work in your favor when choosing your smartphone. Thus, manufacturers no longer hesitate to mention the case of significant energy savings when moving to a higher generation. At a time when our smartphones sometimes don't last all day, this is a criterion that should not be overlooked when making your selection.
