Kick-Ass: why this return to the saga is very attractive ?

In 2010, British director Matthew Vaughn made his mark with Kick-Ass. This film, which adapted a comic book of the same name by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., tells the story of an average young teenager who dreams of becoming a superhero like the legends that rocked his youth. The latter ends up buying a costume and tries to go fight crime on the streets of the city. He then discovers that reality is very different from fiction.

A project already well underway

This feature film left its mark with its humor and its spectacular fighting scenes. There was certainly a sequel in 2013, but fans have been left wanting more since then. There is, however, good news, since Matthew Vaughn has already confirmed that he is working on a feature film project called The Stuntman (the stuntman in French). And in fact, this production will be part of a brand new trilogy in the saga.

This film is very well underway if we are to believe the information from the specialist mediaVariety. Thus, the feature film could be unveiled at the Toronto International Film Festival this year or in 2025 during the Sundance Film Festival.

In the meantime, Matthew Vaughn himself returned to this production which is very close to his heart:

We are halfway there. There is a very, very daring aspect… and it will be a creation that will come out of my head. It's a very, very meta universe. That's what, you know, Kick-Ass was reinventing and creating an R-rated superhero and no one was really doing it. It's about bringing this whole concept to a worthy level… not even a sequel, because I think it's just a whole new way of doing Kick-Ass, which couldn't be more Kick-Ass.

Anyone who appreciates frankness will be reassured by reading these words. Kick-Ass is indeed notable for its badass action scenes and adult humor and it would have been a shame to water down the whole thing. It remains to be seen whether the Briton will manage to rekindle the early flame, but we want to trust him. For your part, do you like Kick-Ass, and if so, do you think this reboot is a good idea? Tell us in the comments.

What to remember:

  • Matthew Vaughn working on a Kick reboot -Ass
  • This film project is called The Stuntman
  • It could be presented at the end of the year or in 2025
