Marvel, Star Wars… Disney joins forces with Fortnite for $1.5 billion

This is a major partnership between two global entertainment giants. Disney has decided to invest $1.5 billion to take a stake in Epic Games. A substantial sum, but which only represents a small part of the video game studio valued at $32 billion, and almost half owned by the Chinese company Tencent.

A new Disney universe in Fortnite

The union between the two brands does not stop there. Disney has indeed announced the creation of a new space for the game Fortnite. The firm with big ears specifies:

The new persistent universe will provide a wealth of opportunities for consumers to play, watch, purchase and engage with content, characters and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more Again. Players and fans will be able to create their own stories and experiences, express their passion in a way distinct from Disney, and share content with each other in the way they prefer. Everything will be powered by Unreal Engine.

This isn't the first time Disney franchises have appeared in the game, but we seem to be dealing here with a large-scale creation. Many players (or fans of these sagas) might indeed want to come and take a look at this virtual space to find their favorite characters.

In a press release released for On the occasion, Bob Iger is full of praise for this initiative:“Our exciting new relationship with Epic Games will bring together Disney's beloved brands and franchises with the immensely popular Fortnite in a transformational new world of gaming and entertainment”.

Disney is eyeing the video games market

And the manager adds&nbsp ;: “This marks Disney's largest entry into the gaming world and provides significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can't wait for fans to discover the Disney stories and worlds they love in revolutionary ways.”

Of course, this is far from being Disney's first foray into the video game industry. The company has been translating its major franchises into games for over 30 years now. However, recent developments, where video games are massively adapted into films and series, should not have escaped society's decision-makers. We are therefore observing a real rapprochement between these two worlds with players who share a passion for these two media.
