Last December, we learned of the disappearance of the Netflix Essential subscription billed at €10.99 per month. Concretely, it is no longer possible for newcomers to subscribe to this offer. But current customers, as long as they don't change their plan, can keep it.
Unfortunately for the latter, things will change. In a communication addressed to investors, the streaming platform explains that it will permanently remove the Essential subscription in all countries where the ad-supported offer is available (and therefore in France). For the moment, Canada and the United Kingdom are the first concerned, but France should not take long to do so.
The consequences are quite unpleasant for those affected. Indeed, two unenviable choices are possible: pay more and upgrade to the Standard offer at €13.49, or opt for the offer with advertising at €5.99 per month . Towards new price increases on Netflix ?
As we explained to you in a previous article, the giant entertainment now favors this formula financed by advertising which has great commercial potential. According to figures provided by the company, subscriptions to this offer represent 40% of new registrations.
Unfortunately for Netflix subscribers, bad news does not stop there, since the platform half-heartedly threatens new increases:
We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more to reflect these improvements [new content, editor's note], which helps fuel the virtuous cycle of additional investment to continue to improve and develop our service.
Not sure that customers, already burned by the increases occurring in 2023, will be delighted. Reassured by its latest good figures, Netflix seems to fully embrace this new strategy. Be careful, however, not to offend Internet users too much, as this could end up paying for itself in the long term.
