This is nothing new: Netflix powers our binge-watching with autoplay. As soon as the episode of our current series is over, we move straight into the next one. If there are no more episodes to devour or you are watching a film for example, it is not a big deal since Netflix offers you a preview of several programs that should please you.

In short, it's difficult to put down… And you can easily get close to indigestion. Especially since many users sometimes simply want to take advantage of the generic to process the information they have just received. Fortunately, there is a way to free yourself from automatic play on Netflix and not be disgusted with your subscription. We explain everything to you in this tutorial.

How to stop autoplay on Netflix?

Autoplay is to Netflix what endless scrolling is to TikTok. Never has a feature better embodied the saying “When there is no more, there is more”. The streaming platform ensures that you always have something to watch on hand, even if you consider turning off your TV or computer. Subtly, Netflix encourages us to consume more and more content.

But you can easily stop Netflix from autoplaying. If this feature is enabled by default, you can disable it with just a few clicks. Tutorial…

To do this, you must go to your profile then, at the top right, click on “Account”. There you will find all the information concerning your Netflix account such as your subscription, billing or even the various profiles. By clicking the little arrow next to your profile, you can change the language, add a password, and even take a look at your viewing history. Further down, change the “Playback Settings”.

And if you want to go even faster, it’s possible. Indeed, you can turn off autoplay by directly editing your profile and unchecking autoplay controls in a few clicks.

The good thing is that Netflix has separated the autoplay of episodes from that of program previews. So, you can choose to deactivate the automatic playback of previews because it does not interest you, while keeping the sequence of episodes of your series because you find this functionality very practical. Especially when you're warm under the duvet and the remote control is too far from your arm.

How to turn off autoplay on Netflix:

  • Open a web browser and go to Netflix
  • Enter your service login credentials
  • Click on your profile
  • At the top right, select “Account”
  • Choose “Playback Settings”
  • Uncheck the boxes “Autoplay episode followed by series on all devices” and “Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices”
  • Save your choice

Or…

  • Open your web browser and go to Netflix
  • Enter your service login credentials
  • Click “Edit Profile”
  • Directly uncheck the boxes “Autoplay episode followed by a series on all devices” and “Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices”

If you want to know how to find the recap’ of your series after having accidentally clicked on “Skip recap”, it’it’here.
