Recently, Samsung presented its results for the third quarter of 2023. Its profit is still down, due to the memory chip market, but the situation is gradually improving. And the manufacturer's smartphones remain resilient, compared to the crisis. Furthermore, for 2024, Samsung Galaxy is preparing to stock up on announcements related to artificial intelligence.

Previously, sources talked about generative AI-based features that will be available on the Galaxy S24 series. And recently, Samsung almost corroborated these rumors during its quarterly results conference call. The Korean giant has not given details on the features that will be offered.

A “hybrid” AI on smartphones

But we know that important new features are coming. “We plan to apply gen AI technology to the core features our users interact with every day in order to be more creative and practical. To their daily life. And from 2024, we plan to offer meaningful and innovative experiences, optimized for our users, with the most important functions based on their individual usage habits and preferences”, said Daniel Araujo, Vice President -president of the Mobile eXperience (MX) division at Samsung.

The vice-president of Samsung also indicated that the manufacturer wants to exploit “hybrid” type AI, which uses both the cloud and the computing power embedded in smartphones. The advantage of an AI that works locally is that it can be personalized based on user data. But the cloud, for its part, makes it possible to offer more services.

New processors designed for AI

In other words, Samsung will therefore combine the advantages of these two systems. And for the next high-end models, the Korean giant will be able to rely on a new generation of processors capable of running LLMs or large language models locally. In October, Samsung presented its new high-end processor which, compared to the Exynos 2200, has 14.7 times higher AI performance.

Samsung will also be able to take advantage of Qualcomm's latest SoC, the Snapdragon 8 gen 3. This is capable of running AI locally with 10 billion parameters. And compared to the Snapdragon 8 gen 2 SoC, this one also has a 98% faster NPU (neural processing unit).

As a reminder, high-end Samsung Galaxy smartphones generally use two processors. : Exynos chips designed by Samsung for part of the production, and high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon chips for another part of the production.

  • Taking advantage of the presentation of its quarterly results, Samsung discusses its plan to integrate generative AI into smartphones
  • From 2024, new features based on this technology will arrive
  • Samsung intends to rely on a hybrid model: AI that exploits the computing power of the smartphone, but also the cloud
  • Samsung will be able to rely on its powerful Exynos 2400 processor, but also on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 gen 3
