Are you familiar with ad-supported streaming television (FAST) ? If not, you might want to look into it, because Japanese entertainment and tech giant Sony enter the dance. Sony One is the name of this plethora of offerings of 54 channels which will be launched in April 2024 in France. Here's everything we already know.

Why Sony is taking this initiative ?

In a press release published for the occasion, Pete Wood, vice-president of Sony, explained this choice as follows:

Our entry into the FAST space in Europe reflects our dedication to making premium content accessible across important new distribution channels. We recognize the potential of the free, ad-supported television sector to engage new viewers around the world with our extensive catalog of films and TV series.

Where can we watch these channels?

The 54 free channels will be offered on LG Channels, Samsung TV Plus or TiVo+.

What content will we be able to watch on Sony One ?

This is where Sony's strategy has what to attract a large audience. Indeed, this offer is extremely rich in content, whether series or films that have become part of the legend of the seventh art. Here is a non-exhaustive inventory of these 54 channels:

  • Sony One Comedy TV: comedy series like < em>Seinfeld, The Nanny and The Goldbergs.
  • ony One Thriller TV: thriller series, including Breaking Bad, < em>Better Call Saul and Justified.
  • Sony One Faves: timeless classics like Bewitched, Community and Dawson's Creek.
  • Sony One Action HITS: a channel dedicated to action and adventure films, from District 9 to the Men in Black and Zombieland.
  • Sony One Shark Tank and Sony One Dragons' Den: These channels highlight one of the most popular reality TV formats in which budding entrepreneurs present their ideas to investors with a view to obtaining funding.

Suffice to say that Sony may strike a big blow with this free offer which could well overshadow certain services. We also know that old series like The Office or Friendsare among the most viewed on paid streaming platforms. For your part, what do you think of this initiative? Do not hesitate to share your point of view in the comments.

What&# 8217;you should remember:

  • 54 free channels will be offered
  • Some very popular series such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are available
