Eddie Horniman inherits a huge property following the death of his father. But very quickly, he realizes that the latter was in reality at the head of a drug empire (cannabis). The man, who is not used to this environment, finally agrees to play the game, but he is not made of the same wood as the gangsters who hope to take advantage of the situation. Eddie, however, ends up getting used to this new life and he even takes a liking to it.

We will have understood, this series is certainly linked to banditry, but it also and above all focuses on comedy, faithful to the Guy Ritchie method. Throughout the eight episodes, we appreciate the contradiction between Eddie's aristocratic habits and the unorthodox methods and culture of these thugs.

Inspired casting

This is the other great strength of this production. The distribution is indeed excellent and the actors are very good in their respective roles. Theo James thus plays Eddie Horniman. We have already seen this actor at work in The White Lotus. Let's also mention Kaya Scodelario who plays Susie Glass. We know her in particular for her participation in the series True Love.

The rest of the cast includes & nbsp;: Daniel Ings (I Hate Suzie), Joely Richardson (Lady Chatterley’s Lover), Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), Chanel Cresswell (This is England), Michael Vu, Max Beesley (Hijack).

An acclaimed series

The Gentlemen is currently the most viewed series in France according to the specialized site FlixPatrol. This original creation has everyone in agreement with a rating of 3.7 according to the press on Allociné, while the public gives it an excellent 4.2. Same trend on the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes (71%) and on Metacritic (67).

Our colleagues at Collider judge thus: “The Gentlemen is the perfect example of improving an already perfect film by expanding it to tell a new, even better story. The Netflix series has everything Ritchie fans could want, but it's also accessible to those who aren't yet familiar with the author. It’s bloody, gross, fast-paced, and it doesn't disappoint”.
