For a smartphone to be used, it must be in working order, but also receive regular security updates. And unfortunately, Samsung recently updated its dedicated software support page, removing 3 older Galaxy devices from the list of products that receive security updates: the Galaxy A51 5G, the Galaxy A41 and the Galaxy M01.

As of late May, these three smartphones were still on the list of Samsung devices receiving biannual security updates, according to an old version of the site kept by the Internet Archive. However, the Galaxy A51 5G, Galaxy A41, and Galaxy M01 are no longer on the refreshed version of this list. As a reminder, these three models were launched in 2020.

The Galaxy A51 5G, which was one of the best mid-range smartphones of its time, was launched under Android 10, and again received an update to Android 13. A good number of mid-range Android smartphones that were released the same year no longer receive security updates in 2024. On the other hand, on the side of Apple, the iPhone SE 2020, which can be considered a competitor to the Galaxy A51 5G, is still eligible for iOS 17 updates.

What are the new models?

If you're looking for a mid-range Samsung model in 2024, the best option is probably the Galaxy A55. There is also the Galaxy A35, more affordable, but with a more modest technical sheet. Additionally, Samsung has improved its update policy. “With the Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G, users will continue to benefit from up to four generations of updates. level of Android OS and One UI and five years of security updates, optimizing the lifecycle of devices by keeping them equipped with the latest Galaxy and Android features”, indicated the manufacturer in the announcement of these two smartphones.

On the other hand, to be able to keep the same device for as long as possible, you will have to opt for one of Samsung's latest high-end smartphones: the Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S24 Plus or the Galaxy S24 Ultra. For 7 years, these devices will receive updates to new versions of Android, as well as security updates.
