It’s a feat that has gone relatively unnoticed. Researchers at Harvard University have developed a new solid-state battery that can be recharged in just 10 minutes. If you are not familiar with these, they are different from the lithium-ion batteries mainly used today.

Concretely, scientists from the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) have therefore developed this prototype that can be charged and discharged at least 6000 times, more than all other pocket batteries.

Lithium metal anode batteries are considered the holy grail of batteries because they have ten times the capacity of commercial graphite anodes and could significantly increase the range of electric vehicles. In detail, the researchers are notably managed to overcome a major problem with these objects. Indeed, dendrites often tend to form on the surface of the anode. The latter are metal projections which accumulate on the lithium and develop in the electrolyte. Scientists say they prevented their formation by using micron-sized silicon particles in the anode.
