Two people were killed during the night from Thursday to Friday in a fire at a residence in Rawdon, in Lanaudière.

According to information obtained from the Sûreté du Québec, firefighters were called to Rectory Garden Street following a 911 call, around 1:20 a.m. from a person reporting their house was on fire before communication was cut off.

When they arrived on the scene, the firefighters noted that the fire was widespread. Firefighters discovered the inanimate bodies of two people shortly after.

Forensic expertise will have to be carried out to confirm the identity of the victims. The owners of the house, a man and a woman, both in their seventies, are missing.

We do not yet have confirmation of the identity. On the other hand, if she is the owner of the house, she is a woman who has touched many people. There are a lot of people who will be very affected, said the mayor of Rawdon, Raymond Rougeau, at the scene of the fire.
