In 2023, registrations of new electric cars increased by 16.1% compared to the previous year in France. A nice progression, which allows the market share of 100% electric cars to increase by 3.5 points, to stand at 16.8%. In Europe, sales of new cars jumped 13.9% in France, and the rankings have a few small surprises in store.

And in the end, it's still Germany who wins

Indeed, no big change regarding the top of the ranking, with Volkswagen still imperial, which peaks at more than 1.3 million sales on the Old Continent. The German brand is followed by Toyota (828 484), and by compatriot Audi (733 176) which thus snatches third place from BMW, relegated to 4th position.

As far as French brands are concerned, Renault is doing well, moving up to sixth place (with 681,023 vehicles sold), just behind BMW, and just ahead of Skoda. With just under 640,000 sales, Peugeot has to settle for 8th position, while Citroën is in 15th place, with 370,000 sales.

Obviously, with the rise of electric, certain brands are progressing in the ranking. This is the case for Tesla, the American brand being driven by its very popular Model Y, which is in 16th position, just behind… Citroën. Enough to also double certain historic brands, such as Nissan or even Seat.

Good progress also for the Chinese brand MG, which moved into 20th position. The brand is notably at the origin of the very popular MG4, a 100% electric vehicle at an attractive price, our full test of which is available at this address.
