Launched at the end of 2023 after years of waiting, the Cybertruck is finally a reality. Well, especially for Americans. Marketed for the moment only on its lands, Tesla's steel monster is touring Europe. Paris is one of its stopping points throughout the month of May.

First exhibited at Vivatech, Tesla then parked it in the forecourt of Station F. It was here that we had the chance to discover this extraordinary vehicle… and to enter it.

Madness of grandeur

Massive, imposing, enormous… all the adjectives evoking a very (too ?) bulky object are suitable to describe this Cybertruck. Whether you like its angular design or not, it leaves no one indifferent. When we were discovered, a crowd quickly formed around the vehicle. The Cybertruck fascinates.

It must be said that it is impressive with its 5.7 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and more than 1.85 m high (at its highest point). Her steel dress is also impressive, as is the absence of any artifice. No door handles, a button on the window allows you to open the beast.

At the front, the headlight fits the entire width of the vehicle. The single windshield wiper is ridiculously long. And we won’t dwell on the giant 20” wheels which, in the event of a problem, could cost a PEL.

At the back, the pick-up (because it is well of a pick-up) opens to reveal a storage space of 1 897 liters ! You can easily sleep there three adults of 1.85 meters. Tesla also offers accessories such as mattresses and a tent for sleeping under the stars.

Inside, the vehicle is just as impressive. The minimalist interior specific to the brand combines with premium finishes. Like all of the brand's vehicles, the Cybertruck is controlled from a central screen, here with a diagonal of 18.5''. The rear passengers have a 9.4” screen to access, for example, entertainment services (Netflix, Twitch, Youtube and others). As on the restyled Model 3, this screen can be controlled independently from the main screen.

The Cybertruck has a Yoke steering wheel. Like the new Peugeot steering wheels, it does not have a steering column. It works electronically and adapts its turning radius to the speed of the vehicle in real time.

Entering the Cybertruck is entering the grandiose world of American pick-ups, a futuristic version, sprinkled with the madness of Elon Musk. A one-of-a-kind vehicle that intrigues as much as it fascinates. On paper, already, the figures are frightening:

  • 0 to 100 km in 4.3 seconds for the Fundation version and in 2.7 seconds for the Cyberbeast model (the one that overtakes a Porsche while towing a Porsche)
  • 545 km of autonomy for the Fundation and 505 km for the Cyberbeast (with the possibility of extending by 200 km thanks to an optional additional battery)
  • 250 kW Supercharging capable of recover 200 km in 15 minutes
  • Tow up to 5 tonnes!

And these are just a few examples.

Who is the Cybertruck for?

If Tesla does not limit its target, the brand recognizes that the Cybertruck wants to establish itself as the American electric pick-up par excellence. In the United States, these vehicles are not rare. They are even very widespread in certain regions, notably those populated mainly by farmers who own monumental areas. They also support craftsmen whose storage needs are significant. In certain states of the USA, pick-up is almost an institution. It can, the American road network being sized for this type of vehicle.

Difficult to imagine such a car on our French roads. And yet, Tesla does not close the doors to its marketing. While some sources mentioned a weight problem forcing drivers to hold a heavy goods vehicle license to drive it, the reasons for American exclusivity are entirely different.

The Cybertruck in France ?

The Cybertruck could indeed arrive in France without problem. The law does not prohibit it. The vehicle weighs just under 3 tonnes, battery included. However, the approval is calculated without the battery. The Cybertruck is therefore a pick-up and not a heavyweight, despite its frightening dimensions. No need for a heavy goods vehicle license therefore.

For the moment, the only reasons for the absence of European marketing are strategic. The brand wants to start slowly in the United States, with local production in its Texas Gigafactory. A launch that we have already experienced with the Model S in its time for example.

To afford the Cybertruck, today you have to pay < strong>80 000 dollars for the Fundation version and 100 000 dollars for the Cyberbeast. Even if it arrives in France, it will remain reserved for a wealthy audience.

While waiting to save a little, you can go and discover it in Paris. The Odyssey tour schedule is available here.
