You may have to wait until the iPhone 17 for this big Apple news

In 2022, Apple began ditching the 12-megapixel main camera on the back of iPhones, in favor of a 48-megapixel sensor. On the other hand, on the front, users of the latest iPhones still have to make do with a 12 megapixel sensor. But according to a recent publication by analyst Ming Chi Kuo, this will change, since Apple is considering replacing the 12 megapixel sensor for selfies with a 24 megapixel sensor.

On the other hand, the bad news is that we may have to wait for the iPhone 17 series, in 2024, to take advantage of this new feature. According to Kuo, the front camera of the iPhone 17 will have a 24-megapixel sensor with a 6P lens. If this information is true, this would be a major development for selfies on the iPhone, since according to Kuo, the iPhone 16 will continue to use a 12-megapixel front camera with a 5P lens.< /p>

But it remains to be seen how this will impact the cost of the iPhone, and its selling price. Indeed, according to Ming Chi Kuo's explanations, the price of the 6P lens is 100% to 120% higher than the price of a 5P lens.

Another new feature for the iPhone 16 Pro

The iPhone 16 Pro should still use a 12-megapixel front camera with a 5P lens, but it could benefit from a major development in the back camera. Indeed, Kuo indicates that on the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the ultra-wide-angle sensor should have a resolution of 48 megapixels. As a reminder, on the iPhone 15 Pro, only the main sensor has a resolution of 48 megapixels, while the ultra wide-angle has a resolution of 12 megapixels.

< p>This new feature should significantly improve the quality of images captured with the ultra wide-angle. But as usual, this novelty must be considered with caution, as it does not come from an official source. Otherwise, it should be remembered that many rumors are already circulating about the iPhone 16 series.

For example, in a previous article, we relayed rumors that the iPhone 16 series devices are expected to have significantly larger screens, compared to models launching in 2023. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will reportedly have a screen of 6.9 inches and dimensions of 163 mm x 77.58 mm x 8.25 mm.

  • Apple would consider replacing the 12 megapixel sensor for selfies on iPhone with a 24 megapixel sensor
  • However, the firm would wait until 2024 to launch this new feature on the iPhone 17 series
  • As for the iPhone 16 Pro, it could have two 48-megapixel sensors on the back
