The man who stabbed a court interpreter Tuesday at the Longueuil courthouse was charged this morning with attempted murder.

According to the denunciation filed at the court registry, Alexandre Garcés, 44, will also have to answer to charges of serious assault, armed assault and carrying a weapon in a dangerous design.

The accused had not yet appeared before the judge at the time of writing due to a conflict of interests which would prevent legal aid from immediately providing him with an official lawyer. This is because the available lawyers know the victim and witnesses in the case.

Alexandre Garcés was arrested yesterday noon by police officers at the Longueuil courthouse after stabbing Hai Thach, a 68-year-old court interpreter, for a reason still undetermined.

The victim, who was quickly transported to hospital, remains in serious condition.

The accused remains detained in a prison center in Sorel from where he must appear by videoconference on Thursday for the holding of his investigation into his release.

We already know that the public prosecutor intends to oppose his release freedom.
