This Thursday, October 12 at New York Comic Con, the Toei Animation studio conference was highly anticipated, and spectators were not disappointed. The Japanese company has indeed formalized the launch of an animated series called Dragon Ball Daima, which promises to bring fans epic battles with a mini katana-wielding character. The opportunity for us to tell you what we already know about this long-awaited project by fans.
1) What will the series be about?
Chronologically, Dragon Ball Daimaseems to be set after Dragon Ball Super and a little before the end of Dragon Ball Z. We will follow Goku, Vegeta and the other characters in the saga. Few elements have filtered out about the story, but it seems that a demon is able to rejuvenate all the heroes of the franchise.
We can in any case expect a visual renewal if we are to believe this first trailer. However, and as our colleagues from Kotaku have rightly noted, we also recognize the rounded designs of the first versions.
2) Is the creator of Dragon Ball involved in the anime?
This was precisely the good news from this conference. We have indeed learned that Akira Toriyama is deeply involved in this project. The latter even wrote a text for fans to tell them of his ambition.
He announces: “Due to a bad spell, Goku and his friends became small. To settle things, they will head to a new world! It’s a great adventure with intense action and a mysterious new world”.
He adds: “Since Goku has to deal with his small size, he will reuse his Magic Staff in combat, which he has not done for a long time. I created the story and the issues, as well as many of the drawings. I am actually much more involved in this project than usual!”
And Akira Toriyama concludes: “You will be able to discover some answers to some of the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. I hope you will enjoy these new fights different from those you are used to thanks to their cute and powerful aspect!”
3) What is the release date of Dragon Ball Daima?
We do not yet know the exact release date of the series, but a horizon has already been set: fall 2024.
