Free: your personal data may have been seen by other customers

© Free Center of Tours/Iliad

This is a bug that Free would have done without. This Tuesday, customers of the operator mistakenly accessed invoices from other subscribers on their personal space. This is therefore a disclosure of their personal data.

According to BFM, we could thus read their names, first names, postal addresses, e-mail addresses, subscriber ID, and even a part of the RIB. Finally, the list of calls made was also available as part of this leak.

Free confirms this bug

Contacted by our colleagues, Free did not seek to deny this incident. This problem lasted for an hour this Tuesday, March 5 in the evening and it was quickly corrected. It would have concerned a fairly limited number of subscribers compared to the total number of customers according to the operator.

However, this affair is causing chaos, and Internet users have expressed their concerns about the security of their data on the social network X (formerly Twitter). They therefore fear that other customers will now have their personal information.

Unfortunately, since the start of 2024, numerous data leaks have punctuated the news in France. This is particularly the case at the level of Health Insurance with millions of users concerned. Likewise, the CAF has reported that thousands of accounts have been compromised, and it is forcing beneficiaries to change their passwords to better protect them.

Free presented its new Freebox Ultra

As far as Free is concerned, the incident should stop there. Xavier Niel's group is off to a pretty good start to the year and recently unveiled a new box called Freebox Ultra. Very powerful, the latter promises record flow rates and state-of-the-art technologies. All while offering quite impressive entertainment (Netflix, Canal+, Disney+…) Obviously, the subscription is not cheap and it costs 50 euros the first year, then 60 euros per month thereafter. You can always reread our article dedicated to this subject here.

What to remember:

  • This Tuesday, March 5 in the evening , a major bug affected some Free
  • customersBy consulting their subscriber areas, they could view the data of other customers: surnames, first names, postal addresses, e-mail address, subscriber identifier, and even part of the RIB
  • Free has not sought to deny this issue, but the company says it has only affected a limited number of users relative to its subscriber base. This hasn't stopped some customers from worrying about X
